2018 Patriots roster cuts: New England releases three players, including Devin Lucien

New England continues to cut down its roster.

The New England Patriots’ busy day continues: after multiple transactions were reported earlier today — and in the case of the Jordan Richards trade, already confirmed by the team —, the team made five more player releases official. Three of those moves have not been made public before:

WR Devin Lucien

DT Frank Herron

CB Ryan Lewis

Neither of the three releases is too big of a surprise, even though Lucien showed some flashes early during the preseason. However, he ultimately did not enough to earn a spot on a Patriots’ wide receiver depth chart that currently is in flux. However, the 25-year old could still be re-signed to the practice squad.

The same goes for Lewis and Herron, two players that fell victim to the depth at their respective positions. While the two youngsters had their moments during training camp and the preseason, they did not stand out enough to warrant spots on the team. Whether the same goes for the practice squad remains to be seen.
