The New England Patriots came up empty on their first series after a missed field goal, giving the Jacksonville Jaguars the football in solid field position. The home team took advantage and the 7-0 lead. To make matters worse, the Patriots also lost one of their key defenders. Trey Flowers stayed on the ground following a second down play that saw teammate Keionta Davis’ knee hit him in the head.

Flowers walked off the field under his own power, and into the blue medical tent. When he emerged, he walked straight into the locker room. There, as has been announced by the Patriots, he is currently being evaluated for a potential concussion.

With the 25-year old in the concussion protocol and questionable to return, Davis and Deatrich Wise Jr. will see added snaps alongside Adrian Clayborn. While the Patriots have depth on their defensive edge, losing Flowers is undoubtably a blow for the defense.
