The New England Patriots are in the process of setting their first 53-man roster and they will soon also be able to establish their practice squad.

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET today, the claiming deadline for players with less than four years of experience on their résumés has passed. Those players have been released over the last two days and are now subject to the waiver wire. Last year, New England lost an NFL-high four player through waivers. Beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET today, the Patriots will also be adding up to ten players who will serve both as a scout team for the regular season and as depth in case of injury. Most of their released players are potential candidates, like cornerback Cyrus Jones, defensive tackle Vincent Valentine, and quarterback Danny Etling. New England loses cornerback Cyrus Jones to the Baltimore Ravens: the team has signed the former second-round draft pick to its practice squad.

New England has claimed two players: former New York Jets wide receiver Chad Hansen and former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Amara Darboh.

New England signs quarterback Danny Etling to its practice squad. The third-stringer was released yesterday with the intention to be brought back.

New England loses cornerback Ryan Lewis and punter Corey Bojorquez to the Buffalo Bills: the Patriots’ AFC East rivals have claimed both on waivers.

New England loses safety A.J. Moore to the Houston Texans: the undrafted rookie was primarily a depth player this summer and failed to make the team despite the Jordan Richards trade.

New England signs defensive tackle Vincent Valentine and linebacker Harvey Langi to its practice squad.

New England places tight end Will Tye on injured reserve. Tye was waived with an injury designation yesterday and went unclaimed.

New England signs running back Ralph Webb to its practice squad. He had a solid preseason but faced a steep uphill climb to make the team.

New England signs wide receiver Riley McCarron to its practice squad. He adds depth at both wide receiver and punt returner.

New England places tight end Ryan Izzo on injured reserve. The move allows the Patriots to fit both Chad Hansen and Amara Darboh onto their 53-man roster, and also gives them the possibility to reactivate him after eight weeks.

New England signs offensive linemen Cole Croston and James Ferentz, and cornerback Jomal Wiltz to its practice squad.

New England loses defensive edge Eric Lee to the Detroit Lions and former Patriots coordinator Matt Patricia.

Defensive lineman Trent Harris is present at New England’s practice, indicating that he has been signed to the practice squad.

It sounds as if the Patriots will not be able to get Ryan Izzo back this year: he has reportedly been placed on injured reserve before today’s 4:00 p.m. ET deadline and will not be eligible to return.

New England has officially announced its first practice squad as well as placing Izzo on injured reserve.

The New Orleans Saints sign running back Mike Gillislee. He was unable to win a job in New England’s deep backfield this offseason and got cut yesterday.

The Detroit Lions add two more former Patriots: linebacker Marquis Flowers and rookie defensive tackle John Atkins get signed to the active roster and practice squad, respectively.

New England reportedly adds wide receiver Jace Billingsly to its practice squad. The 25-year old was recently released by the Lions.

The San Francisco 49ers sign offensive tackle Matt Tobin to their active roster. Tobin spent all summer in New England but failed to earn the fourth tackle spot.

New England worked out tight end Stephen Anderson and offensive tackle Eric Smith, the latter of which was reportedly signed to the practice squad.
