With the interior offensive line market exploding over the past two seasons, Mason’s deal — which ties him to Foxborough through the 2023 season — makes him the 15th highest paid guard or center in the league based on annual per-year value. Yet, while the Patriots clearly get an excellent value for a player who will anchor their offensive attack through the end of Tom Brady’s career, Mason’s deal provides solid up front cash, and a good deal of financial security. The deal’s fully guaranteed $23.5 million ranks fourth among interior offensive lineman contracts.

With the extension Mason’s 2018 cap figure increases by $1.4 million to $3,424,976 — the 14th highest on the team, up from 26th.
