With the regular season opener just two days away, the New England Patriots and Houston Texans released their final injury reports of the week earlier today. And as has been the case all week long, the Patriots’ list is a relatively short one: the team is in solid shape heading into its first meaningful game of the year.
Let’s take a look at today’s practice report:
Out
Texans: CB Kayvon Webster (Achilles; did not participate)
After placing second-round rookie cornerback Duke Dawson on injured reserve yesterday, the Patriots had full practice participation today. As a result, none of the team’s players have been declared out for Sunday’s matchup. Houston, meanwhile, will play without cornerback Kayvon Webster: the offseason pickup is still rehabbing from an Achilles injury that forced him to end last year on injured reserve.
Questionable
Patriots: OT Marcus Cannon (calf; full participation), SS Nate Ebner (knee; full participation), TE Jacob Hollister (hamstring; limited participation), RB Sony Michel (knee; limited participation)
Texans: WR Keke Coutee (hamstring; limited participation), OLB Duke Ejiofor (hamstring; limited participation), WR Will Fuller (hamstring; limited participation), WR Sammie Coates (hamstring; limited participation)
Despite participating fully during the last few practices, both starting right tackle Marcus Cannon and special teams ace Nate Ebner are listed as questionable to play on Sunday. However, both should be expected to be active in two days. The same cannot be said for Jacob Hollister and Sony Michel, who were both limited all week long. The two youngsters will likely be game-time decisions.
Removed/unlisted
Patriots: LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (illness)
Texans: K Ka’imi Fairbairn (right thigh; full participation), CB Kevin Johnson (concussion; full participation), OLB Whitney Mercilus (hamstring; full participation)
Fifth-round rookie Ja’Whaun Bentley was limited on Wednesday, a full participant on Thursday, and has now been removed from the injury report on Friday. He is good to go and will play in his first NFL regular season game on Sunday as a rotational linebacker.
