In a little more than an hour, the New England Patriots will enter the 2019 NFL playoffs when they kick off their divisional round game against the Los Angeles Chargers. And as a look at today’s list of inactive players shows, it looks like both teams are as close to full health as they can be at this point of the season.
Patriots inactives
DE Deatrich Wise Jr.
DE Keionta Davis
TE Stephen Anderson
OL James Ferentz
DE Ufomba Kamalu
DB Obi Melifonwu
CB Duke Dawson
The most notable name on the Patriots’ inactives list is defensive edge Deatrich Wise Jr. The second-year defender popped up on this week’s injury report with an ankle issue and was listed as questionable to play. While a previous report stated that he is expected to be ready, the team apparently felt otherwise and deactivated its second most productive pass rusher in terms of sacks this year (4.5).
With Wise Jr, Keionta Davis and Ufomba Kamalu all out, the Patriots have decided to activate Adrian Clayborn again. The veteran was a healthy scratch the last two weeks but will have to step into the rotation alongside Trey Flowers, John Simon and Derek Rivers.
The rest of New England’s inactives include no surprises.
Chargers inactives
TE Sean Culkin
RB Detrez Newsome
OC Cole Toner
OG Forrest Lamp
WR Dylan Cantrell
DE Anthony Lanier
DT T.Y. McGill
Los Angeles’ list of inactives also includes no surprises. All four players listed as questionable on Friday — including tight end Hunter Henry — will play.
