In not even 90 minutes, the New England Patriots will play their sixth game of the 2019 regular season, trying to improve their record to 6-0: the team will square off against the New York Giants who are entering today’s contest with an 2-3 record. Before getting ahead of ourselves, however, let’s take a look at the players on both sides who have been declared inactive and will therefore not participate in today’s contest:
Patriots inactives
WR Phillip Dorsett II
RB Rex Burkhead
RB Damien Harris
QB Cody Kessler
CB Joejuan Williams
OT Korey Cunningham
DT Byron Cowart
Of the seven players listed above, only one was already declared out prior to today: wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, who left last Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins after only four snaps, was ruled out on Tuesday due to what has been described as a minor hamstring injury. While he could make his return after the Patriots’ mini-bye that follows tonight’s game, the team apparently does not want to risk anything on a short turnaround.
The same goes for running back Rex Burkhead who too has been listed on the injury report this week, albeit as questionable. Dealing with a foot injury, the 29-year-old will miss his second straight game. The other five questionable players — wide receivers Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon, linebacker Shilique Calhoun, and safeties Patrick Chung and Nate Ebner — are all good to go. Chung and Ebner return after the game in Washington.
The rest of the inactive players, meanwhile, are all healthy scratches tonight.
Giants inactives
RB Wayne Gallman Jr.
TE Evan Engram
OG Chad Slade
OT Eric Smith
LB Tae Davis
Running backs Saquon Barkley and Wayne Gallman as well as wide receiver Sterling Shepard an Evan Engram were already ruled out on Wednesday; they are joined on the list of inactives by three healthy scratches. This means that outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter, who was listed as questionable, will play.
