11 days removed from their sixth game of the season, the New England Patriots will play their seventh tonight: the undefeated world champions will visit New York to take on the Jets for the second time this season. While the Patriots are the clear favorites to win the game, the home team — one that is coming off its first victory of the season — is looking drastically different from the one that was defeated 30-14 in Week 3.

Entering Week 7, the Patriots’ fan base remained among the most confident in the NFL: 89% of participants in SB Nation’s FanPulse survey had a positive attitude about the direction in which the team was headed. While the confidence score went down two percentage points compared to the previous week, New England still ranked among the most positively viewed teams in the entire league as just four fan bases felt better.
The undefeated San Francisco 49ers led the list with a 99% approval rating, followed by a three-way tie of teams getting a 91% score on the confidence meter: the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, and Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots followed them in fifth place, which likely had little to do with the team’s success but rather a recent string of injuries: heading into today’s game, five players have already been ruled out.
The Jets, meanwhile, rebounded after last week’s 24-22 win against the Dallas Cowboys and the return of starting quarterback Sam Darnold. While only 5% of fans felt good about the direction the club was headed to entering Week 6, the number jumped to 46% in Week 7 — by far the biggest confidence increase of the week. While the Jets are “only” 1-4 five games into their season, Darnold’s return certainly had a positive impact on the fan base.
