In not even 90 minutes, the New England Patriots will play their seventh game of the 2019 regular season, trying to improve their record to 7-0: the team will square off against the New York Jets who are entering today’s contest with a 1-4 record. Before getting ahead of ourselves, however, let’s take a look at the players on both sides who have been declared inactive and will therefore not participate in today’s contest:
Patriots inactives
WR Josh Gordon
RB Rex Burkhead
DE Michael Bennett
TE Matt LaCosse
TE Ryan Izzo
SS Patrick Chung
OT Korey Cunningham
When the Patriots released their final injury report of the week on Saturday, they already ruled three players out to suit up against the Jets: wide receiver Josh Gordon (knee/ankle) and tight ends Matt LaCosse (knee) and Ryan Izzo (concussion) were ruled out to play. On Sunday, running back Rex Burkhead (foot) was added to the list — one that also includes defensive end Michael Bennett, who has been suspended for one week by the team.
Today, the Patriots added two more players to the list of inactives to trim their game day roster to 46 players: safety Patrick Chung and offensive tackle Korey Cunningham will not play tonight. While Cunningham is a healthy scratch for another week, Chung will miss his second game of the season because of injury. The veteran defender was listed as questionable entering today because of knee and chest ailments.
Speaking of questionable players, New England welcomes wide receiver Phillip Dorsett back after he missed last week’s game against the New York Giants because of a hamstring injury. Dorsett was listed among those listed as questionable on Saturday, but has been cleared to play; the same can also be said about wide receivers Julian Edelman (chest) and Gunner Olszewski (hamstring).
Also active are rookies Damien Harris, Joejuan Williams and Byron Cowart — just the second time this year that all rookies on the active roster dress for a game.
Jets inactives
RB Trenton Cannon
LB Neville Hewitt
LB Albert McClellan
OL Kelvin Beachum
OL Kelechi Osemele
TE Chris Herndon
DT Henry Anderson
The Jets, meanwhile, will be without some of their most talented players as tight end Chris Herndon, starting offensive linemen Kelvin Beachum and Kelechi Osemele and defensive lineman Henry Anderson have been ruled out. Meanwhile, linebacker C.J. Mosley returns from a four-game absence.
