2019 NFL trade deadline tracker: Patriots rumors, news, instant analysis, and more

Make sure to stay up-to-date on what projects to be a busy day.

The trade deadline is almost here! At 4:00 p.m. ET today, the window to move players via trade will close for the season and judged by the last week of action a few active hours could be ahead of us. The New England Patriots, as usual, are projected to be among the teams to watch today: they have never shied away from making moves, and are already among the teams that have pulled the trigger at least once over the last few days.

Over the last few years alone, the Patriots moved on from starting linebacker Jamie Collins Sr. (2016) and high-upside backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (2017), and acquired linebacker Kyle Van Noy (2016). Whether or not New England will be similarly active today after already making two trades last week remains to be seen, but whatever happens we are here to collect all the moves and rumors from the team and from around the NFL.

Patriots moves

WR Mohamed Sanu: from Atlanta Falcons to New England Patriots for a 2020 second-round pick

DE Michael Bennett: from New England Patriots to Dallas Cowboys for a conditional 2021 seventh-round pick

NFL moves

CB Aqib Talib and a 2020 fifth-round pick: from Los Angeles Rams to Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick

LB Genard Avery: from Cleveland Browns to Philadelphia Eagles for a 2021 fourth-round pick

DT Leonard Williams: from New York Jets to New York Giants for a 2020 third-round pick and a 2021 fifth-round pick

RB Kenyan Drake: from Miami Dolphins to Arizona Cardinals for a conditional 2020 sixth-round pick

SS Quandre Diggs and a 2021 seventh-round pick: from Detroit Lions to Seattle Seahawks for a 2020 fifth-round pick

WR Emmanuel Sanders: from Denver Broncos to San Francisco 49ers for 2020 third- and fourth-round picks

CB Gareon Conley: from Oakland Raiders to Houston Texans for a 2020 third-round pick.

There have been more trades this season — think Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Los Angeles Rams — but those are the ones that have happened since last week.

Patriots candidates and targets

The Patriots have never been afraid from moving players on their rookie contracts about to enter free agency, if the projected reward is greater than a potential compensatory draft pick. Left guard Joe Thuney and linebacker Elandon Roberts fall under this category, but trading the two players seems highly unlikely at this point in time: Thuney is a starter and the team’s best offensive lineman, Roberts a team captain and valuable rotational player.

Moving on from players — either on their rookie deals or not — could not be the only moves made today, as the Patriots could also go after outside help. While the team reportedly has an eye on more receiver help despite having already acquired Mohamed Sanu, the two most realistic positions are an offensive line that could benefit from additional depth and tight end. O.J. Howard and Tyler Eifert are two names to keep an eye on.
