The New England Patriots returned to the practice fields in a walkthrough capacity on Tuesday.
But six were limited while another was a spectator for what took place without helmets, shells or jerseys.
Here’s the second estimated injury report of the week leading up to Thursday’s 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium against the New York Giants.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
- Patriots: WR Phillip Dorsett (hamstring)
- Giants: RB Wayne Gallman (concussion), WR Sterling Shepard (concussion)
Dorsett exited in the first quarter of New England’s 33-7 victory over the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. He wouldn’t return due to a hamstring injury, and wouldn’t have practiced Monday if the Patriots had. The wideout was officially designated as a non-participant in Tuesday’s half-speed work, and it would be a quick turnaround for full-speed work on Thursday night.
New York is expected to be without both Gallman and Shepard versus New England. Both the running back and the wide receiver suffered concussions in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Both started.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: RB Rex Burkhead (foot), WR Julian Edelman (chest), WR Josh Gordon (knee), LB Shilique Calhoun (ankle), S Patrick Chung (heel), S Nate Ebner (groin)
- Giants: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), TE Evan Engram (knee), LB Lorenzo Carter (neck)
Edelman and Gordon played through chest and knee ailments, respectively, versus Washington. Burkhead, Chung and Ebner were inactive for New England and remained limited Tuesday. And Calhoun joined the handful as a result of an ankle injury after playing 14 snaps on defense and 26 on special teams last weekend.
For the Giants, Barkley’s high-ankle sprain has held him out of the last two games. The short week will likely make it three missed games for the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s NFL draft. Engram’s availability for the matchup also appears to be in doubt due to a reported MCL sprain. New York’s top tight end went from a non-participant to a limited participant on Tuesday, and has caught 33 passes for 373 yards and a pair of touchdowns this season.
FULL PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: no players listed
- Giants: OT Nate Solder (ankle), LB Alec Ogletree (hamstring), LB Josiah Tauaefa (knee), LB Tae Davis (concussion)
The Giants elevated Solder, Ogletree and Tauaefa from partial to full participation following Tuesday’s light workout.
Solder has played every offensive down for New York since departing from New England as a free agent in March 2018. The veteran left tackle is on track to do so in his return to Foxborough.
