In not even 90 minutes, the New England Patriots will play their 14th game of the 2019 regular season, trying to improve their record to 11-3: the reigning world champions will square off on the road against a Cincinnati Bengals team that is entering today’s contest with a 1-12 record. Before getting ahead of ourselves, however, let’s take a look at the players on both sides who have been declared inactive and will therefore not participate in today’s contest:
Patriots inactives
CB Jason McCourty
QB Cody Kessler
RB Damien Harris
TE Ryan Izzo
OL Jermaine Eluemunor
OL Korey Cunningham
DT Byron Cowart
The Patriots entered the weekend with seven players listed as questionable. One of them — rookie defensive tackle Byron Cowart — was already declared out on Saturday, with one of them joining him on the list of inactives: cornerback Jason McCourty, who was limited all week due to a groin injury and only played four snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday, will miss his third game because of the issue. J.C. Jackson is again the top candidate to replace him in the starting lineup.
The other questionable players, meanwhile, are good to go: wide receivers Julian Edelman (knee/shoulder) and Mohamed Sanu (ankle) will play, as will defensive tackle Danny Shelton (shoulder), linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (knee), and center Ted Karras (knee). Karras, of course, returns to the starting lineup after missing last week’s game because of a knee injury he originally suffered two Sundays ago versus the Houston Texans.
The rest of the inactives are therefore no surprise, and little more than depth players at this point in time.
Bengals inactives
QB Jake Dolegala
WR Damion Willis
WR A.J. Green
CB Torry McTyer
OG John Jerry
OT Isaiah Prince
DT Anthony Zettel
The Bengals ruled two players out on Friday: rookie defensive tackle Renell Wren was placed on injured reserve since then; wideout A.J. Green will miss his 14th straight game. The other inactives, meanwhile, are depth players and no real surprises.
