The New England Patriots did not take to the practice fields on Christmas.
But Wednesday’s projected injury report included six names, including right tackle Marcus Cannon and cornerback Jason McCourty.
Cannon exited with an ankle injury in New England’s 24-17 win over the Buffalo Bills last weekend and was later downgraded from questionable to out. McCourty exited with a groin injury that previously had him listed as questionable.
Here’s the initial prognosis for the 1 p.m. ET finale at Gillette Stadium against the Miami Dolphins.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
- Patriots: no players listed
- Dolphins: CB Jomal Wiltz (shoulder)
No member of the Patriots’ active roster would have been sidelined on Wednesday. New England held a walkthrough on Christmas Eve.
Wiltz, a member of the Patriots’ practice squad for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, would have been the lone non-participant for the Dolphins. The former Iowa State cornerback has started six games and checked into 14 for Miami this campaign, recording 58 tackles and one interception.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: WR Julian Edelman (knee/shoulder), OT Marcus Cannon (ankle), LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (knee), LB Jamie Collins (shoulder), CB Jason McCourty (groin), CB Jonathan Jones (groin)
- Dolphins: WR Allen Hurns (ankle/neck), TE Durham Smythe (quadriceps), DT Christian Wilkins (shoulder), DT Zach Sieler (ankle/thumb), DE Taco Charlton (ankle), LB Vince Biegel (elbow), LB Andrew Van Ginkel (shoulder)
All but Jones were active as the Patriots clinched the AFC East last Sunday. New England’s top nickelback appeared in 62 consecutive regular-season games, but would have been limited on Wednesday after not practicing all of last week. The same goes for Cannon. And as for McCourty, the 32-year-old cornerback was limited to four snaps over the past month with a groin injury of his own before returning in Week 16. His return was cut short after just an additional four snaps against the Bills.
Seven were down as limited for the Dolphins. Wilkins, the Springfield, Mass., native and No. 13 overall pick in April’s NFL draft, was one because of a shoulder injury.
FULL PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: no players listed
- Dolphins: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (right shoulder), WR Isaiah Ford (knee), FB Chandler Cox (shoulder), C Daniel Kilgore (finger), CB Nik Needham (groin)
While no Patriot drew the full-go listing on Wednesday, a handful of Dolphins did.
Including Fitzpatrick. The Miami quarterback’s throwing shoulder resides on the injury report. Fitzpatrick finished Week 16 with 419 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
