2019 NFL Draft: Patriots visiting with a pair of elite quarterbacks prospects

The New England Patriots are visiting with two of the top quarterback prospects, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, as both Duke’s Daniel Jones and West Virginia’s Will Grier are taking official visits with the team.

Jones is considered one of the four best prospects at quarterback, behind Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, and Missouri’s Drew Lock, with all four potential (if not probable) first round picks.

Grier is considered to be in the next tier, alongside NC State’s Ryan Finley, Buffalo’s Tyree Jackson, Auburn’s Jatrett Stidham, and Northwestern’s Clayton Thorson, as players likely to be selected in rounds two through four of the draft.

If the Patriots want Jones, they might have to trade up from the 32nd overall spot. They could also just be doing homework on Jones, who might ultimately go to the division rival Miami Dolphins.

Grier makes a lot of sense as a high-upside prospect that could benefit from sitting behind Tom Brady for a season or two as he learns the New England offense. He’s a name that I’d watch for the Patriots at the end of round two or in round three.
