NFL draft 2019: Patriots trade up, draft DE Byron Cowart with the 159th pick

New England has picked another player.

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft is underway, and the New England Patriots have made another trade. This time, the world champions opted to move up the board, sending two draft choices to the Minnesota Vikings:

Patriots get: 5-159

Vikings get: 5-162 + 7-239

With the 159th overall selection, the Patriots then drafted a defensive lineman out of Maryland:

#159: Byron Cowart

Position: Defensive edge

School: Maryland

Size: 6030, 298 lbs

Quick-hit analysis: A former five-star high school recruit, Cowart transferred from Auburn to Maryland in search of more consistent playing time: he found it and quickly became a starter at his new school. That being said, Cowart might have benefitted from staying in school one year longer as his technique remains a work in progress.
