On Friday, the Tedy’s Team Foundation announced via Instagram that namesake and former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke on Thursday afternoon and is currently recovering. The statement, which is also asking for privacy and providing some additional information about the 46-year-old’s status, reads as follows:
The stroke is not the first the Patriots Hall of Famer has suffered: in February 2005, Bruschi was hospitalized because of a mild stroke but did return to the gridiron just eight months later. The three-time Super Bowl champion, who appeared in a combined 211 regular season and playoff games over the course of his 13-year career with the Patriots, was subsequently named the NFL’s comeback player of the year.
Hopefully, Bruschi, who retired from the NFL after the 2008 season, will have an equally impressive comeback from the stroke he suffered yesterday. All of New England is certainly pulling for him!
