The New England Patriots added swing help to the offensive line on Wednesday, acquiring Korey Cunningham from the Arizona Cardinals.
Cunningham, 24, announced the trade via Instagram.
Selected No. 254 overall in the 2018 NFL draft, Cunningham started all six of his appearances for Arizona as a rookie. The 6-foot-6, 311-pound Cincinnati product played 349 offensive snaps before being placed on injured reserve in late December.
Cunningham now arrives on a Patriots depth chart that includes Isaiah Wynn, Marcus Cannon, Cole Croston, Dan Skipper, Cedrick Lang and undrafted rookies Tyree St. Louis and Martez Ivey heading into Thursday’s preseason finale against the New York Giants. Yodny Cajuste, a third-round choice out of West Virginia this April, remains on the non-football injury list after undergoing quad surgery during the draft process.
According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Patriots are expected to send a sixth-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Cunningham.
The second-year bookend has worked on both sides of the line, and projects to take the third spot in New England’s ranks behind starters Wynn and Cannon after the roster trims 53 players at 4 p.m. ET Saturday.
Cunningham saw 115 snaps over three exhibitions with the Cardinals this August.
New England made an additional trade up front Wednesday, acquiring guard Jermaine Eluemunor from the Baltimore Ravens.
