The New England Patriots’ roster movement continues as Saturday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline nears.
Wideout Ryan Davis and safety A.J. Howard are among those who have been waived, sources told Nick Underhill of The Athletic.
Davis signed as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in the spring, after working in tandem with Patriots rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham to set the school’s all-time receptions record. The 5-foot-9, 188-pound Davis caught three passes for 30 yards with New England this preseason, and has experience in the slot and as a punt returner.
Howard, who finished the 2018 regular season on the New York Giants’ practice squad, signed to the Patriots’ practice squad in January on the way to earning a Super Bowl LIII ring. The Appalachian State product re-upped on a futures contract and recorded five tackles through New England’s initial three exhibitions this August.
Howard did not play in Thursday night’s preseason finale due to precautionary reasons, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, and is a candidate to return as a member of the practice squad in September.
