Patriots 2019 roster cuts: TE Eric Saubert cut

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Cleveland Browns Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

After being acquired by from the Atlanta Falcons for a conditional seventh round pick in next year’s draft, The Athletic’s Nick Underhill is reporting that tight end Eric Saubert’s time with the Patriots is ending, for now.

Saubert, in his third season after being drafted in the fifth round out of Drake, failed to break out of the pack during what was an ample opportunity for all of the Patriots tight ends this summer. He does, however, still have practice squad eligibility. So, if he clears waivers, the Patriots could decide to add him to the practice squad if they want to get a closer look.

With Ben Watson and Lance Kendricks suspended, Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo are the two remaining players on the roster at the tight end position.
