Saubert, in his third season after being drafted in the fifth round out of Drake, failed to break out of the pack during what was an ample opportunity for all of the Patriots tight ends this summer. He does, however, still have practice squad eligibility. So, if he clears waivers, the Patriots could decide to add him to the practice squad if they want to get a closer look.
With Ben Watson and Lance Kendricks suspended, Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo are the two remaining players on the roster at the tight end position.
