The New England Patriots’ offense has produced well this season, but also suffered some injuries along the way. The latest came at the wide receiver position, with both Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman exiting the team’s Week 3 game against the New York Jets with injuries late in the first half. And while Gordon ultimately returned after halftime, Edelman remained nowhere to be seen. Shortly afterwards, the Patriots gave an update.

According to the team, the reigning Super Bowl MVP is questionable to return to the contest because of a chest injury. Edelman got shaken up on a short catch-and-run, but initially remained in the game before walking to the sidelines. He did not go into the blue medical tent, but instead — with just 30 seconds left in the second quarter — headed into the locker room for further examination.

While the injury did not look overly serious when it happened, the Patriots are obviously playing it safe with Edelman. It would therefore not be a surprise if he remained out for the rest of the game.

[UPDATE] The Patriots have announced that Edelman is out and will not return.
