The final practice of the work week is in the books for the New England Patriots.
As is the final injury report leading up to Sunday’s season opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium.
Here’s a look down both sides of the aisle as the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff draws near.
DOUBTFUL
- Patriots: no players listed
- Steelers: S Sean Davis (ankle)
Pittsburgh’s starting free safety was listed as a non-participant in practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Davis is now officially ruled doubtful for Sunday night in Foxborough.
The 2016 second-round draft pick out of Maryland has been sidelined with an ankle injury since his Aug. 25 exit against the Tennessee Titans. Davis recorded 80 tackles, seven passes defensed and one interception over 15 games last campaign.
QUESTIONABLE
- Patriots: WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring), TE Matt LaCosse (ankle), S Obi Melifonwu (ankle)
- Steelers: no players listed
Thomas, LaCosse and Melifonwu all garnered the limited designation through New England’s initial two injury reports of the week. That continued in the third.
Thomas re-signed Monday after being released at the 53-man roster deadline, and after reeling in a team-high seven passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots’ preseason finale. As for LaCosse, who is joined by Ryan Izzo on the active depth chart of tight ends, an ankle sprain kept him out of the team’s final three preseason games.
