Patriots fans entered the regular season finale feeling good about the team, and why wouldn’t they? New England had just secured the AFC East title by playing a strong game against the Buffalo Bills, and positioned itself well to earn a first-round bye in the playoffs. All that was needed was a home win over the lowly Miami Dolphins. Instead of beating their division rivals, however, the Patriots fell apart and played one of their worst games all year.
The 27-24 loss to Miami naturally hurt New England’s fan confidence, and a look at SB Nation’s latest FanPulse survey shows just how much. While heading into Week 17 with 85% of participants feeling good about the direction of the franchise at the moment, only 31% of fans feel the same way with Wild Card weekend on the horizon. After consistently ranking in the top teams throughout the season, the Patriots are now only 21st league-wide and 11th out of the 12 playoff teams (only the Houston Texans have a worse approval rating).
Tennessee, on the other hand, feels quite good about its team at this point in time: after registering a 74% last week — quite the growth from a season-low 0% in Week 10 — 89% of participating fans said that they would feel good about where the team is headed. This does not come as a surprise, considering that the Titans locked up a playoff spot for just the second time since 2008 by beating the Texans on Sunday.
