Two days after he tested positive for the novel Coronavirus, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton took to social media to release his first statement since he was moved to the Reserve/Covid-19 list on Saturday. Translating from his trademark font, the 31-year-old had to say the following about his situation:
I never will question God’s reasoning; just will always respond with, “Yes Lord!” I appreciate all the love, support and well wishes! I will take this time to get healthy and self reflect on the other amazing things that I should be grateful for!
Newton’s positive test and the uncertainty that it created within the Patriots organization led to the team’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs being pushed back one day. New England will travel west on Monday, before playing the reigning Super Bowl champions later that same day — without the starting quarterback under center, of course.
Newton, meanwhile, will be out at least five days or possibly more depending on whether or not he develops symptoms or produces some negative tests in the upcoming days. Either way, the Patriots will have to get by with veteran Brian Hoyer filling in for their starting quarterback.
