Linebacker Jack Cichy has agreed to join the New England Patriots’ practice squad, according to a report Friday from Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Cichy, 24, had been awarded off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and waived with the failed-physical designation on Wednesday. He subsequently went unclaimed in the hours leading up to New England’s 24-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.
Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft, Cichy appeared in 15 games during his stay in Tampa Bay, which included three stints on injured reserve due to ACL, elbow and hamstring injuries.
The 6-foot-2, 238-pound Wisconsin product saw seven snaps on defense and 259 snaps on special teams over that span to record six tackles.
The signing of Cichy brings the New England scout team to its 16-man capacity following the recent arrivals of veteran wide receiver Devin Smith and former Brigham Young defensive back Dayan Lake.
The Patriots will visit Hard Rock Stadium to face the Miami Dolphins in Week 15.
