The New England Patriots’ initial transaction of February arrived Tuesday.
As first reported by Field Yates of ESPN, New England has signed cornerback Lenzy Pipkins.
Pipkins, 26, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent by way of Louisiana-Monroe and Oklahoma State in 2017. The 6-foot, 196-pound defensive back has made stops with the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns since then.
Over 15 career regular-season games, Pipkins stands with 24 tackles and one pass deflection.
Pipkins had seen 122 snaps on defense and 113 snaps on special teams for Green Bay as a rookie, and was traded during the following preseason to Indianapolis. Detroit then claimed Pipkins off waivers in the fall of 2018, and he’d finish his second NFL campaign as a member of Cleveland’s practice squad.
The Browns waived Pipkins at the 53-man roster deadline last August.
Pipkins now joins a cornerback depth chart in New England that includes Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones, Joejuan Williams, Justin Bethel, D’Angelo Ross and Jason McCourty, who carries a team option for 2020.
The league year opens at 4 p.m. ET on March 18.
