The New England Patriots and pending free agent safety Devin McCourty are “working hard on a deal” that would make the 32-year-old a “Patriot for life,” according to a report by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. This is great news for the Patriots, because on McCourty’s skills on the field, and leadership off of it, are a huge key to the team’s success.
The report is not completely unexpected, though. After all, the two sides reportedly already started talking with each other back at the scouting combine in late February. Furthermore, New England also picked up cornerback Jason McCourty’s contract option for the 2020 season earlier this week — a move that seemed to signal that they were making bringing both McCourty twins back a priority.
While nothing is official yet, this report is definitely a good sign when it comes to McCourty’s future in New England. If and when the deal is struck, make sure to check Pats Pulpit for the story, and for any other breaking news that might be coming in the next few days. Free agency is only just getting started.
