Devin McCourty will be returning to the New England Patriots in 2020.
The 32-year-old safety and team captain announced the news alongside his brother, Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty, Sunday night on an emergency episode of the Double Coverage podcast.
“I will be staying here in New England to play alongside this guy,” Devin said of Jason. “Sign me up.”
Pick No. 27 overall in the 2010 NFL draft started all 16 games for the Patriots last regular season. A total of 58 tackles, seven passes defensed, five interceptions and two forced fumbles followed.
But Wednesday’s 4 p.m. ET window for unrestricted free agency would not.
Instead, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, one McCourty has reached a two-year extension worth $23 million to remain in the same secondary as the other. The deal includes $17 million guaranteed, sources told Rapoport.
The Patriots officially exercised Jason McCourty’s 2020 option last week.
