Alex Rollins from Niners Nation took to the film room this week to dissect New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and answer a simple question: Is it time for the 42-year-old to retire? Not quite, as Alex explains:
This week, I set out to determine whether or not Tom Brady is still good at playing quarterback. The answer? Without a doubt. The first game I studied was the wild card loss to the Tennessee Titans. On Brady’s second pass of the game, he threw a 28-yard missile to tight end Benjamin Watson on a deep cross, which whizzed basically straight through linebacker Jayon Brown’s face mask. On just the second play of the game, I had my answer.
This film breakdown details how a lack of talent at the skill positions was the main problem, the receivers could not gain separation, frequently ran the wrong routes, and failed to step up in key situations. Going back to Week 2, it was apparent how drastically Antonio Brown changed the dynamic of this offense, and how badly they missed him afterwards. After Week 2, the Patriots barely called one of their favorite concepts of the decade “Hoss Juke,” because of their receivers’ inability to run it correctly.
