The New England Patriots entered the second day of the draft with a league-high 13 selections in the fold. After already adding safety Kyle Dugger in the second round and later trading up to also pick linebacker Josh Uche, the team again invested in its defensive front seven in round number three: with the 87th overall selection, New England has drafted edge linebacker Anfernee Jennings.
Jennings may not be the most explosive athlete, but he offers intriguing versatility and can play down on the edge and off the ball. A physical defender, who played under Bill Belichick confidante Nick Saban, Jennings adds upside to a linebacker group that lost Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins in free agency.
Following the selection of Jennings, the Patriots’ draft haul and remaining capital now looks as follows:
Round 1: --
Round 2: S Kyle Dugger, LB Josh Uche
Round 3: LB Anfernee Jennings, 3-100
Round 4: 4-125, 4-129, 4-139
Round 5: 5-172
Round 6: 6-195, 6-204, 6-212, 6-213
Round 7: 7-230
