The New England Patriots entered the second day of the draft with a league-high 13 selections in the fold, and the first three of those were invested on the defensive side of the ball. New England picked safety Kyle Dugger and linebacker Josh Uche in the second round, before adding another linebacker — Anfernee Jennings — with the 87th overall selection in Round Three. Just four picks later, the Patriots were on the clock again: the team traded up with the Las Vegas Raiders to draft UCLA tight end Devin Asiasi.
Asiasi is a well-rounded tight end that can play both in-line and also be flexed out as a pass catcher. While he is a bit rough around the edges, he should make an immediate impact on a Patriots tight end group that struggled in 2019.
The trade itself breaks down as follows:
- New England gets: 3-91 + 5-159
- Las Vegas gets: 3-100 + 4-139 + 5-172
Following the selection of Asiasi, the Patriots’ draft haul and remaining capital now looks as follows:
Round 1: --
Round 2: S Kyle Dugger, LB Josh Uche
Round 3: LB Anfernee Jennings, TE Devin Asiasi
Round 4: 4-125, 4-129
Round 5: 5-159
Round 6: 6-195, 6-204, 6-212, 6-213
Round 7: 7-230
