The third and final day of the NFL draft continues to roll along, and the New England Patriots have made another selection. After already adding kicker Justin Rohrwasser in the fifth round, the team has now bolstered its offensive line after a trade-up with the Indianapolis Colts: the Patriots have drafted guard Michael Onwenu with the 182nd overall selection in the sixth round.
Onwenu’s frame — 344 pounds at not quite 6-foot-3 — stands out, but he also has the play strength to go along with it: the Michigan product is impressive at the point of attack and brings a physical edge to the position. His overall athleticism may not be impressive, but he has some tools to work with as a developmental late-round selection.
The details of the trade look as follows:
- New England receives: 6-182
- Indianapolis receives: 6-212 + 6-213
Following the selection of Onwenu, the Patriots’ draft haul and remaining capital now looks as follows:
Round 1: --
Round 2: S Kyle Dugger, LB Josh Uche
Round 3: LB Anfernee Jennings, TE Devin Asiasi, TE Dalton Keene
Round 4: --
Round 5: K Justin Rohrwasser
Round 6: G Michael Onwenu, 6-195, 6-204
Round 7: 7-230
