Just as I finished listening to a podcast about how NFL teams are loath to sign free agents and commit big dollars without their own doctors being able to do their thing....this happens.
Per multiple verified accounts, including the best ESPN has to offer in the venerable and indefatigable Mike Reiss, the greatest Panthers QB in history (sorry Jake Delhomme) is signing a one-year deal with the New England Patriots:
(and if Rapoport is to be believed, it’s been in the works for some time now)
QB Cam Newton has reached agreement on a 1-year deal with the Patriots, @AdamSchefter and @mortreport report.

QBs: Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, Cam Newton, J'Mar Smith, Brian Lewerke.
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has reached agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots, league sources tell @mortreport and me.

Newton now will step into the mix to try to help replace former Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.
For the #Patriots and Cam Newton, who have quietly worked on this recently, it’s a 1-year deal worth up to $7.5M, source said. https://t.co/YSHLAcRupb

Well OK then.
Jolt of adrenaline from actually having some relevant sports news (nevermind football news) in June notwithstanding, one would *assume* that this move means New England will have to find a creative way to make some cap space. Because according to our good buddy PatsCap, there is....a tad of a discrepancy between our available cap and Cam’s deal:
Worth up to is code for active roster bonuses and/or NLTBE incentives https://t.co/75ojU2EeSM

As soon as the terms of the deal are available, we’ll break it down in true nerd fashion like we always do.
In the meantime.....what say you? Like or dislike?
