The New England Patriots are taking another big step towards the 2020 season today: the team is kicking off the third phase of its training camp preparations at Gillette Stadium, meaning the first fully-padded practice will take place. Accordingly, the team will increase its intensity compared to the walkthrough-type sessions of last week while this next phase represents another the final step towards “normal” camp getting underway.
“Fundamentally, we’re still going over the same material in a similar progression. We have walk-throughs, we have meetings, we have training and conditioning,” said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick about this year’s training camp structure during a media conference call earlier this month. “We’re going to eventually have individual drills when we get to Phase Two, and then we’re going to get to Phase Three and have 11-on-11 drills.”
Despite the similar progression Belichick mentioned, things will look different on the field — and off it as well: for safety reasons, fans are not allowed to watch the team’s preparatory work this summer. The team will offer a special service, however, and live-stream the event as part of its Patriots Unfiltered program. The stream will be available both on the team’s website and on social media, with the latter of the two embedded above as well.
The action will start at 10:00am, so please make sure to tune in!
