In the days after Xavier Williams visited the New England Patriots, another defensive tackle would do the same.

New England reported the tryout of rookie free agent Michael Barnett on Friday, as first shared by TheMMQB.com’s Albert Breer.

Barnett, listed at 6-foot-4 and 304 pounds, went undrafted in April after appearing in 46 career games at the University of Georgia. He finished his tenure in the SEC with 47 combined tackles, including an assisted tackle for loss, and two batted passes.

The redshirt senior started six games for head coach Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs in 2019 while recording 23 stops along with three quarterback pressures.

Veteran defensive tackle Beau Allen, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles, has been among New England’s recent absentees during training camp.

The 80-man active roster currently stands at 78 for the Patriots as full-pads practices continue.
