A second tour with the New England Patriots came to an end on Friday for Will Hastings.
The Patriots announced they’ve waived the 24-year-old rookie wide receiver out of Auburn.
Hastings originally signed with New England as part of the organization’s undrafted class this spring, and was waived as NFL rosters reduced from 90 to 80 players ahead of training camp.
The 5-foot-10, 174-pound Hastings went unclaimed and returned to the depth chart on July 27, but had been a limited participant or among the absent in practices open to reporters.
A former Tigers target of Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham, Hastings played in 42 games during his tenure in the SEC and totaled 56 catches for 845 yards and six touchdowns. As a redshirt senior coming off a torn ACL last fall, he caught 19 passes for 222 yards and one TD.
According to Doug Kyed of NESN.com, the Patriots plan to sign free agent Andre Baccellia, who was among four wideouts recently in Foxborough for workouts.
Baccellia, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound undrafted rookie from Washington, had been waived by the Kansas City Chiefs last week. He registered 107 receptions and 10 rushes during his Huskies career, finishing with 1,302 yards from scrimmage to go with six touchdowns.
