The New England Patriots announced the signing of former Washington Huskies wide receiver Andre Baccellia on Saturday.
The move, first reported by NESN.com’s Doug Kyed, brings the New England roster back to 80 after fellow rookie wideout Will Hastings was waived to close the week.
Baccellia, 23, appeared in 48 games during his Huskies career, catching 107 passes for 1,183 yards and five touchdowns. He handled 10 carries for 119 yards and an additional trip to the end zone.
The redshirt senior ran the 40-yard dash in 4.28 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.85 seconds at his filmed pro day before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in the spring.
Kansas City waived Baccellia on Aug. 19.
Listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, Baccellia joins a New England depth chart that nears the regular season with Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu, N’Keal Harry, Jakobi Meyers, Damiere Byrd, Gunner Olszewski, Devin Ross, Jeff Thomas and Isaiah Zuber.
The deadline for NFL teams to reduce to 53 active players is set for 4 p.m. ET on Sept. 5.
