The New England Patriots returned to practice on Thursday with 52 of 53 members of the active roster in attendance.
Rookie linebacker Cassh Maluia made his way back as a limited participant after previously being sidelined by a knee issue, while redshirt offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste remained absent for New England as the 2020 season opener nears.
Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore would also be among the partial participants listed on the second injury report of the week.
Here’s the updated prognosis for Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET matchup versus the Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
- Patriots: OT Yodny Cajuste (knee)
- Dolphins: no players listed
Cajuste started and finished the 2019 season on New England’s non-football injury list while recovering from quad surgery. The former third-round pick out of West Virginia resides on a tackle depth chart that includes Isaiah Wynn, Jermaine Eluemunor, Korey Cunningham and rookie Justin Herron out of Wake Forest.
The Dolphins continued to have a full active roster on hand Thursday.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: WR Julian Edelman (knee), WR Gunner Olszewski (foot), TE Dalton Keene (neck), LB Cassh Maluia (knee), CB Stephon Gilmore (hamstring)
- Dolphins: WR DeVante Parker (hamstring), WR Preston Williams (knee), TE Mike Gesicki (glute), LB Kyle Van Noy (hand), CB Xavien Howard (knee), CB Byron Jones (Achilles), S Clayton Fejedelem (pectoral)
A hamstring injury saw Gilmore added to the Patriots’ limited on Thursday. And joining the cornerback in that capacity would be rookie tight end Dalton Keene due to a neck injury.
Seven Dolphins were listed as limited. Six were in the same capacity the practice prior. The lone change would be Fejedelem. The veteran defensive back was added to the report due to a pectoral injury.
FULL PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: LB Chase Winovich (shoulder)
- Dolphins: QB Tua Tagovailoa (hip)
Winovich graduated from limited to full participation on Thursday for the Patriots. The outside linebacker, who is dealing with a shoulder injury, appeared in every game last campaign while notching 5.5 sacks as well as a touchdown on special teams.
On Miami’s half, Tagovailoa continues to be a full-go at practice. The first-round quarterback by way of Alabama will back up veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick on Sunday afternoon.
