The New England Patriots hosted wide receiver Jordan Suell for a workout on Monday, as shared on the NFL transaction wire by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle and Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Suell, listed at 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, had worked out with the Indianapolis Colts last week. He played collegiately at Southern Oregon in the NAIA and tallied 42 receptions for 834 yards and 12 touchdowns as a redshirt senior in 2019.
The 23-year-old target finished with 112 receptions for 2,184 yards and 27 scores in all during his tenure with the Raiders of the Frontier Conference.
A native of Vancouver, Wash., Sewell went undrafted last spring after running the 40-yard dash in a reported 4.49 and 4.52 seconds at his filmed pro day to go with a three-cone drill of 6.99 seconds and a short shuttle of 4.28 seconds.
Suell later joined The Spring League as a member of the Generals, and won the title game in December over the Aviators. In the process, he reached both the end zone and the century mark in receiving yards through four catches from quarterback Bryan Scott.
New England enters 2021 with wide receivers Julian Edelman, Jakobi Meyers, N’Keal Harry and first-team All-Pro punt returner Gunner Olszewski under contract. Additionally, Devin Smith, Kristian Wilkerson and Isaiah Zuber agreed to futures contracts after finishing the 7-9 regular season on the practice squad, while Covid-19 opt-out Marqise Lee’s one-year deal has tolled into the new league year.
Damiere Byrd, a 14-game starter after stints with the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March along with fellow wideout Donte Moncrief.
