Patriots officially place veteran defensive lineman Henry Anderson on injured reserve

The New England Patriots announced the placement of Henry Anderson on injured reserve Wednesday afternoon.

An MRI confirmed a season-ending pectoral tear for the veteran defensive lineman, who exited New England’s 19-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday after playing three snaps on defense and three snaps on special teams.

Anderson, 30, had agreed to terms with the Patriots on a two-year, $7 million contract in March.

The Stanford product entered the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2015 draft and was acquired by the New York Jets during the 2018 draft. Through 78 games and 43 starts in his career, Anderson has totaled 170 tackles, 11.5 sacks, eight batted passes, four blocked kicks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

New England also made the signings of linebacker Jamie Collins to the 53-man roster and safety Elijah Benton to the practice squad official on a Wednesday that began with the trading of cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round pick.

The Patriots visit the Houston Texans for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday at NRG Stadium.
