The New England Patriots began preparations for the Carolina Panthers without J.C. Jackson.
The starting cornerback, who has played 91 percent of the snaps this fall, would be listed as a non-participant due to an illness on Wednesday. An additional 11 members of New England’s active roster would be limited.
Here’s the initial injury report ahead of Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Bank of America Stadium.

Patriots
- CB J.C. Jackson (illness)
Panthers

In addition to Jackson, New England also remained without right tackle Trent Brown, who suffered a calf strain on the opening drive of the season opener and became eligible to return from injured reserve at the end of October. But running back Christian McCaffrey saw his 21-day return window open for Carolina. The 2019 first-team All-Pro had totaled 365 scrimmage yards and one touchdown before a hamstring injury sidelined him for five games.

Patriots core special-teamer Brandon King went without a practice designation on Wednesday after being ruled out for Week 8 because of a thigh injury. As for the Panthers, Darnold was on hand while in the NFL’s concussion protocol. “He was extremely limited, able to do some of the run-through and stuff like that, but nothing more,” head coach Matt Rhule told reporters. Should Carolina’s starting quarterback not be cleared in time to face New England, it would be P.J. Walker under center. The former XFL passing leader took the first-team reps.

Gilmore worked as a full participant for the Panthers on Wednesday after intercepting a pass in his 17-down debut.
