The second injury report heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

The New England Patriots continued preparations for the Carolina Panthers with 52 members of the 53-man roster.

J.C. Jackson would be the lone absence on Thursday due to an illness that previously sidelined him on Wednesday. The starting cornerback ranks behind only team captain Devin McCourty in snaps played this season, and is tied with reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week Adrian Phillips for the team lead in interceptions.

Here’s the second injury report as Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Bank of America Stadium nears.

  • CB J.C. Jackson (illness)

  • CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver III (toe)

Jackson has not missed a game in New England’s secondary since being among the inactives three times as an undrafted rookie in 2018. And in Carolina’s secondary, Thomas-Oliver III went from limited participation to non-participation on Thursday because of a toe injury.

  • TE Jonnu Smith (shoulder)
  • G Shaq Mason (abdomen)
  • DT Christian Barmore (foot)
  • DT Carl Davis (hand)
  • LB Dont’a Hightower (ankle)
  • LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (ribs)
  • LB Josh Uche (shoulder)
  • LB Kyle Van Noy (groin)
  • S Kyle Dugger (neck)
  • S Cody Davis (hand)
  • K Nick Folk (left knee)

  • QB Sam Darnold (concussion/right shoulder)

New England’s 11 limited participants remain unchanged. And Darnold has twice been listed as limited for Carolina after sustaining a concussion and an injury to his throwing shoulder in Week 8. In turn, Temple and XFL alum P.J. Walker is on track to start at quarterback against the Patriots. As for whom the Panthers will be starting at running back, 2019 first-team All-Pro Christian McCaffrey had his return window open on Wednesday.

  • no players listed

  • OT Cameron Erving (knee)
  • G Pat Elflein (hamstring)
  • C Matt Paradis (knee)
  • LB Shaq Thompson (foot)
  • LB Jermaine Carter Jr. (ankle)
  • CB C.J. Henderson (shoulder)
  • CB Stephon Gilmore (quad)

No Patriots graduated to full participation on Thursday. But Elflein, who was activated from injured reserve for the Panthers, did so while managing a hamstring issue. The veteran guard has started 51 of his 52 career appearances since entering the NFL in the third round of the 2017 draft.
