Leading up to Super Bowl 55 there was plenty of talk about Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes possibly being on his way to one day become the greatest the NFL has ever seen at his position. After the game, however, the national narrative shifted back to the man widely considered as the GOAT: Tom Brady, who led his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 31-9 blowout win over Mahomes and company.

Having earned the seventh Super Bowl victory of his career, Brady solidified his standing as the most successful passer in league history and its greatest ever player. That fact was reluctantly even admitted by long-time doubter Jerry Rice, who himself was once ranked as the top player in pro football annals on an NFL Network list.

As SB Nation’s latest Reacts survey shows, however, there is still no universal acknowledgement that Brady is indeed the greatest player in NFL history. Only 61 percent of fans participating in the survey voted that, yes, the 43-year-old is indeed the GOAT. This leaves more than a third of fans regardless of allegiance — 39 percent — still having a different opinion.

The argument for Brady being the greatest player in league history is an easy one to make, though. Not only is he the most successful one at the game’s most important position, he also was able to win another Super Bowl even after leaving the New England Patriots: Brady won six rings alongside head coach Bill Belichick in New England, and in his first year after moving to Tampa added another title to his already legendary résumé.

While he is obviously not on the same athletic level as other players or even quarterbacks, Brady’s longevity and intelligence under center have allowed him to produce a career unlike any other the NFL has ever seen — or possibly will ever seen. That alone is enough to earn him the title of greatest of all time, even though some are obviously still not ready to recognize him as such.
