The New England Patriots were originally scheduled to not be on the clock until the 46th overall selection midway through the second round, but they made a move up the board: New England traded that 46th selection as well as two fourth-rounders — the 122nd and 139th overall picks — to the Cincinnati Bengals for the 38th overall choice.
With that 38th overall pick, the Patriots Christian Barmore out of Alabama.
Arguably the best defensive tackle in the draft and a borderline first-round selection, Barmore arrives in New England after three seasons with the Crimson Tide. Capable of playing numerous techniques up front, the 21-year-old is a raw talent but one that has plenty of upside in the Patriots’ multiple-scheme front.
Barmore, obviously, becomes the second Alabama player to join the Patriots in this year’s draft. New England also acquired his former-and-now-still teammate quarterback Mac Jones on Thursday.
New England’s next selection will come in the third round at No. 96.
How would you grade the Patriots’ decision to draft Christian Barmore at No. 38?
