Update 6/21/2021: Patriots sign wideout Devin Ross
The New England Patriots have made the reported signing of wide receiver Devin Ross official. The roster therefore stands at 90 players, with safety Patrick Chung (not-processed retirement) still counting against it but fullback Jakob Johnson (exemption) not.
Original story 6/21/2021: Patriots reportedly on track to sign wideout Devin Ross
The New England Patriots are expected to sign wide receiver Devin Ross to the 90-man roster, Mike Reiss of ESPN reported Monday.
Ross recently participated in New England’s three-day mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis, wearing No. 87.
It marked a return to the Gillette Stadium backfields for Ross, who originally signed to New England’s practice squad in the fall of 2019 after stints with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. The 25-year-old target remained with the Patriots through training camp last summer and began the regular season on the scout team before his October release.
Undrafted out of Colorado in 2018, Ross finished eighth in Buffaloes history in receptions, 12th in receiving yards and tied for 19th in receiving touchdowns.
The 5-foot-9, 192-pound wideout is now on track to join a depth chart that includes Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers, N’Keal Harry, Gunner Olszewski, Isaiah Zuber, Kristian Wilkerson, Devin Smith, Marvin Hall and rookie draft choice Tre Nixon.
The Patriots signed offensive lineman R.J. Prince, a fellow minicamp tryout, last Thursday as specialists Roberto Aguayo and Wes Farnsworth were waived. The series of moves left an opening on the roster with training camp on the horizon.
