The New England Patriots continued to reduce from a roster of 80 on Monday evening, waiving rookie wide receiver Tre Nixon, according to Ian Rapaport of NFL Media.

Nixon, 23, arrived in the seventh round at No. 242 overall in May as the last draft selection made by retiring Patriots research director Ernie Adams. The Central Florida transfer from Ole Miss was an All-AAC honorable mention in 2019 before a dislocated collarbone limited him to four starts as a redshirt senior last fall.

During New England’s preseason schedule, Nixon caught two passes for 11 yards on three targets. He played 23 snaps on offense and 10 on special teams over that span.

Nixon is a candidate for the practice squad if unclaimed. Active rosters around the NFL must stand at 53 by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Veteran safety Adrian Colbert marked the initial reported departure for New England after the August finale.
