The New England Patriots hosted five free agents for workouts on Thursday, including quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Ta’amu, 23, went undrafted out of Ole Miss in 2019. After transferring from New Mexico Military Institute, Ta’amu completed 381-of-591 passes up through his senior season in the SEC. His tenure with the Rebels included 5,600 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions through the air to go with 507 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Ta’amu has been a member of the Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions as well as the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks since then. He was waived by the Chiefs in May following a second stint.

Tight end Dylan Cozens, linebackers Chris Orr and John Lako, as well as defensive back Dominique Martin also reportedly visited Gillette Stadium for workouts on Thursday.

Cozens, 27, was an outfielder in the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers organizations. Selected No. 77 overall in the 2012 MLB draft, Cozens would go on to appear in 27 games in the majors, logging one home run and one stolen base. He announced his retirement from baseball in June to pursue a career in professional football.

Orr, 24, signed with the Carolina Panthers as a rookie free agent out of Wisconsin in 2020. The former second-team All-Big Ten pick spent last season between Carolina’s practice squad and active roster, playing in three games before being waived in May.

Lako, 24, also went undrafted last year after earning first-team All-MAC honors as a redshirt senior and team captain at Akron.

And Martin, 27, converted from receiver to corner while at Tarleton State. He was invited to rookie minicamp with the Los Angeles Rams in 2017 and recently participated in The Spring League with the Conquerors.

The Patriots previously worked out five free agents on Monday.
