The New England Patriots returned home in Week 5, playing host to the Detroit Lions at Gillette Stadium. While both teams entered the contest with identical 1-3 records, their matchup was a lopsided one: New England dominated, winning with a final score of 29-0.
Despite the Lions entering the contest as the highest-scoring team in the NFL, their offense was unable to get anything going — in large part due to the Patriots playing opportunistic football and making plays in key situations. Detroit turning the football over twice and also going 0-for-6 on fourth down doomed its chances of leaving Foxborough with a win.
New England’s own offense, meanwhile, did not have a spectacular day either. However, the unit had only one giveaway and kept mistakes at a minimum — all while complementing the defense well and finishing drives with points.
As a result, the Patriots have now improved to 2-3 on the year.
