The New England Patriots returned to the practice fields without two.

Ty Montgomery and Demario Douglas both were sidelined as Los Angeles Chargers prep got underway on Wednesday. The veteran running back is dealing with an illness, while the rookie wide receiver is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after being clotheslined on an unpenalized punt return last weekend.

Here’s the first injury report ahead of Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium.

  • RB Ty Montgomery II (illness)
  • WR Demario Douglas (concussion)

  • WR Keenan Allen (quad)
  • TE Nick Vannett (concussion)
  • LB Khalil Mack (not injury related — rest)

Montgomery has handled 33 snaps on offense and 173 snaps on special teams for New England while operating as the primary kickoff returner this season. As for Douglas, he stands with a team-high 410 receiving yards and to go with his work on punts. The sixth-round pick out of Liberty was downgraded from doubtful to out in the fourth quarter against the New York Giants. The 10-7 loss at MetLife Stadium saw him lead the Patriots with nine targets.

  • RB Ezekiel Elliott (thigh)
  • WR Kayshon Boutte (shoulder)
  • OT Trent Brown (ankle, chest)
  • G Sidy Sow (ankle)
  • G Riley Reiff (knee)
  • C David Andrews (foot)
  • DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (shoulder)
  • LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (hamstring)
  • LB Chris Board (back)
  • ST Matthew Slater (ankle)

  • OT Rashawn Slater (back)
  • OT Trey Pipkins III (wrist)
  • G Zack Bailey (back)

Ten participated in a limited capacity for the Patriots on Wednesday. Elliott in the backfield, Boutte out wide, Andrews and Sow on the line, plus Board on special teams marked the new additions. New England had five healthy scratches last weekend after returning from the bye. The 21-day practice window remains open for Reiff, a longtime tackle who saw action at guard in his debut before landing back on injured reserve.

  • No players listed

  • WR Quentin Johnston (ribs, finger)
  • TE Gerald Everett (shoulder)
  • DT Otito Ogbonnia (knee)
  • LB Kenneth Murray Jr. (shoulder)
  • LB Eric Kendricks (knee)

No members of the Patriots’ 53-man roster graduated to full participation on Wednesday. Defensive tackle Christian Barmore and defensive back Myles Bryant had both cleared the injury report without game statuses by the end of Week 12 work.
