While he will not be allowed to join his new team until after going through the NFL’s Coronavirus protocols, wide receiver Isaiah Ford took to social media to express his excitement about getting traded to the New England Patriots. The 24-year-old wrote that he thanks the organization “for this opportunity and fresh start” before adding that he would be “excited to get to work.”
Ford joined the Patriots shortly before Tuesday’s trade deadline when the team sent a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2022 draft to the Miami Dolphins. The former seventh-round draft pick is expected to help New England fill the slot role that has essentially been vacant since Julian Edelman was placed on injured reserve last week. At the very least, he should give the club another depth option at wide receiver.
As noted above, however, Ford won’t be able to help the Patriots in the upcoming road game against the New York Jets: Covid-19 testing protocols make it impossible for him to join the team before it departs for New Jersey on Sunday, something head coach Bill Belichick also mentioned on Wednesday.
