The New England Patriots will go up against the Miami Dolphins later today, with both teams currently getting through their pre-game warmups. One part of those is the Patriots’ kicking game operation getting ready, with Nick Folk and Jake Bailey both attempting field goals.
The only difference between the two is that Bailey is just the emergency kicker: the second-year man is usually working as New England’s punter and kickoff specialist. He is only working out at kicker to give the team another option behind Nick Folk, who himself has been listed as questionable on the injury report because of a back injury.
With Folk cleared to go, Bailey will not take the field in this capacity unless in case of emergency. Still, he is looking like a legitimate replacement if push came to shove: during warmups, the former fifth-round draft pick was spotted by the Boston Globe’s Jim McBride casually hitting a 60-yard field goal with room to spare. Not bad for a punter.
